ShowerShroom drain hair catchers: the hair stays on the stem, not in the pipe

A ShowerShroom sits inside the drain, under the water, and the hair wraps around its stem instead of going down the pipe. Once a week you lift it out, wipe the hair off and put it back.

Tub, shower, bathroom sink and kitchen: every catcher page says which drain width it fits.

How it works

Why the hair ends up on the stem

A flat strainer sits on top of the drain and the hair mats over it. A ShowerShroom sits a little way down inside the drain, so the water runs around its cap and the hair catches on the stem below it.
  1. Take the old cover or stopper out

Most tub stoppers lift or unscrew. In a shower, the flat cover comes off; under a stall grate there is nothing to remove.

  2. Drop the catcher in

It rests on the crossbar or the rim of the drain, below the surface, and the water goes on draining around it.

  3. Lift it out once a week

The hair is wound around the stem. Pull it off with a tissue, rinse the catcher, drop it back in.

Measure the drain before you order: each catcher page lists the widths it fits. Every catcher in the ShowerShroom range is cut for one kind of drain, and the drain size guide shows where to put the tape.

Bundles

One ShowerShroom for every drain in the house

Most homes have three or four drains that take hair: the shower, the tub, the bathroom sink, and the kitchen with its food scraps. The bundles put the right catcher for each into one order.

Before you order

Measure the drain, then choose the ShowerShroom

Two minutes with a tape measure saves the return. Here is what to look at on each drain.

Tub drain: measure the opening

Take the stopper out and measure across the opening at the top. 1.4 to 1.75 inches is the TubShroom range; the Ultra takes 1.25 to 2 inches with its adapters.

Tub drain catchers

Shower: flat cover or a grate?

A flat shower floor with a round 4 inch cover takes the ShowerShroom Ultra in place of the cover. A stand-up stall with a 2 inch opening under a grate takes the Stand-Up.

Shower drain catchers

Bathroom sink: 1 to 1.4 inches

Lift the pop-up stopper out first. If it will not come out, you need the SinkShroom Combo or a catcher that sits over the drain.

Sink drain protectors

Kitchen: the basket swap

The Kitchen SinkShroom replaces the basket strainer in a standard kitchen sink or disposal opening, about 4.4 inches across.

Kitchen strainers

Already slow?

Clear the clog first with a DrainShroom snake, then put the catcher in. A catcher keeps new hair out; it does not dissolve what is already down there.

Questions

What people ask before they buy a ShowerShroom

Which ShowerShroom do you need for your shower?

Look at the drain. A flat shower floor with a round cover about 4 inches across takes the ShowerShroom Ultra, which replaces the cover. A stand-up stall with a grate over a 2 inch opening takes the ShowerShroom Stand-Up, which goes under the grate. If nothing comes apart, the Stealth sits over the drain.

Will a ShowerShroom fit your bathtub drain?

Take the stopper out and measure the opening. The silicone TubShroom fits 1.4 to 1.75 inches; the stainless TubShroom Ultra fits 1.25 to 2 inches with its adapters. A built-in stopper that does not come out means an in-drain catcher will not fit.

How often do you clean a ShowerShroom?

About once a week in a shower or tub that gets daily use. Lift it out, pull the hair off the stem with a tissue, rinse it and drop it back in. When the water starts to pool around your feet, it is overdue.

Can you still take a bath with a ShowerShroom in the drain?

Yes. A StopShroom stopper lies over the drain with the catcher still inside it, and some catchers come with a stopper in the box.

Does a ShowerShroom clear a drain that is already clogged?

No. It keeps new hair out of the pipe. Clear an existing clog first with a drain snake, then put the catcher in.
