Drain size guide
How to measure your drain for a ShowerShroom
A tape measure and two minutes. Here is where to put the tape on each drain, and which catcher fits the number you get.
Every ShowerShroom catcher is cut for one kind of drain, so the first question is which drain you are standing over, and the second is how wide its opening is. Measure across the opening at the top, with any stopper or cover removed, from one inner edge to the other.
Which catcher fits which width
| Drain | What to measure | Catcher | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bathtub | The opening under the stopper | TubShroom | 1.4 to 1.75 in |
| Bathtub, odd size | The opening under the stopper | TubShroom Ultra | 1.25 to 2 in, with adapters |
| Bathtub or sink | The opening under the stopper | TubShroom Chrome Edition | 1.5 to 1.75 in tub, 1.5 in sink |
| Flat shower floor | The round cover | ShowerShroom Ultra | Standard 4 in cover |
| Stand-up stall | The opening under the grate | ShowerShroom Stand-Up | About 2 in |
| Bathroom sink | The opening under the pop-up | SinkShroom | 1 to 1.4 in |
| Bathroom sink, odd size | The opening under the pop-up | SinkShroom Ultra | 1 to 1.5 in, with adapters |
| Kitchen sink | The basket opening | Kitchen SinkShroom | Standard opening, about 4.4 in strainer |
If your stopper will not come out
Some tubs and basins have a stopper that is built into the drain. An in-drain catcher cannot go in there. The Stealth sits over the drain instead, the Toss mesh covers stick on top, and the BathShroom covers the overflow if you want a deeper bath.
If you land between two sizes
Pick the Ultra version of that catcher: the adapters in the box exist for exactly that case. If the number is far outside every range, write to us with a photo of the drain from above before you order.
If you are tempted by a bottle
Drain cleaners that dissolve hair do it with strong acids or with sodium hydroxide. Poison Control and MedlinePlus both describe the burns they can cause, and the EPA counts their leftovers as household hazardous waste that should not go down a drain. A catcher in the drain and a snake for the old clog keep that bottle on the shelf.
